Horror films are often sited as the most successful genre at the box office. They come in all shapes and sizes, from small independent films such as Halloween (1978) to big blockbusters such as, well Halloween (2018). Audiences jump in line to purchase tickets to see the genre flicks. The Home is the a recent film under the horror umbrella.
The set up is pretty cookie cutter for the film. Through a series of events a youth finds his way to a good deed situation. From there things start to go bump in the night. As per the norm there are jump scares and twists and turns start to reveal themselves.
The Home did its job in checking the boxes for jump scares. They were fine, nothing through the roof. I am glad the film relied on jump scares to scare the audience nstead of the shock value that was a staple of the torture porn faction that once plagued the horror genre. Not that I have an opinion but torture porn is a lazy and repitive way that is designed to shock the audience instead of scare the audience.
While I was entertained with The Home I was ready for the ninety seceb minute movie to be over. Everything had been laid out to a point where the twists and turns were obvious. This was to the point where the characters will be becoming unsympathetic. I was thinking to myself just get on with it.
A few nice scares despite the fact I was ready for the film to end makes this one middle of the road for me. For a film that is not a major popcorn flick during the summer that’s pretty good,
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
