THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS (2025)

STORYLINE: Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world. [The film follows] Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal. (IMDb)

Summer 2025 has not been without its twists and turns.  I have seen films I expected to like that missed their mark while others not only met my exception they far exceeded them.  Things then turned tragic when storms flooded my go to theater. Fumbling to other theaters is far from the worse thing from the end of the world, the important thing is that everyone is ok.  I get the impression that is the case texting with friends who work at this theater. So pivoting to the AMC, that I can’t stand to visit, is a minor inconvenience.  Anyways a surprise film for me is the latest MCU entry The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

I tried going into the fourth Fantastic Four film with an open mind.  There were two strikes against it.  The first were three films I am not fond of as well as superhero fatigue.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps was one of those surprising films that I mentioned at that start.  I was surprised by the feature. I was entertained by the science fiction based story with the hokey story,

The production captured the look abd feel of the 1960’s, which added a distinct positive difference to this film that other MCU and Fantastic Four features do not have.  The retro look of the film was fun for me.

I enjoyed how brains was a superpower in this film. In fact, it seems to be the main superpower.  That doesn’t mean the other superpowers weren’t on display, it just means that when they were it made it more fun to watch for me.

I do enjoy when I am pleasantly surprised for the better, like with The Fantastic Four: Four Steps.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
