STORYLINE: Years into their relationship, Tim and Millie find themselves at a crossroads as they move to the country. With tensions already flaring, an encounter with an unnatural force threatens to corrupt their lives, their love and their flesh. (IMDb)
Over the past few years the horror genre has seen an incredible uptick, in releases, that has excited me. Knock at the Cabin (2023), Stopmorion (2023), Immaculate (2024, this has been my personal favorite), The First Omen (2024), and 28 Years Later (2025) to name a few. There have been duds. After all Winnie the Pooh: Blood & Honey (2023) and Infinity Pool (2024) did not do the trick for me. After seeing the trailer a handful of times, in front of other features, I assumed my normal seat at the latest 2025 horror film Together.
In general, horror films fall under two umbrellas. The first is a hokey and tend to take themselves less seriously. This, when done right, becomes a really fun film. The 2025 release Clown in a Cornfield falls under this umbrella. The second umbrella are horror films that take themselves more serious. This has the potential to create a really frightening film. Together stands under the second umbrella.
Together has the set up, in its premise. Throughout the film the Together becomes a semi decent atmospheric psychological thriller. The film falls apart during the climax. It’s not that the climax is unfitting, it’s just a bit of a let down. The story was crafted in such a way that was it just has to end. It got to the point where any ending would do. I felt the same way about the far superior horror film The Witch (2015). The difference between the two films is Together spent time explaining its ending, almost an unnecessary amount of time. The Witch just ended. This elevated Together down to a mediocre film.
Together was not the home run as other horror films over the past few years.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
