FOLK TALES (2025 – Documentary)

STORYLINE: Teenagers attend a folk high school in Arctic Norway, relying on themselves, peers, and sled dogs as they navigate the path to adulthood and uncharted personal growth. (IMDb)

At one point in our life we were all, or currently are, teenagers. This is an awkward and extremely difficult phase of life. At least for me it was.  The documentary Folk Tales turns its cameras on the life of teenagers.

Over the course of a year, in arctic Norway the documentary follows its subjects as they essentially learn survival skills and what it means to take care of others through an emersion like process.  They are responsible for Alaskan huskies as they learn these skills on this journey of discovery.

Folk Tales is a feel good documentary, but it earns that title. Every emotion is portrayed through the course of the film, anxiety, depression, happy, joy, excitement, sorrow, failure, and success everything.  Over the course of a year these teens learned these lessons of life and the film shows that well.

Folk Tales is also a beautiful film to watch.  The scenic Norwegian. Articic is on full display.  Many different landscapes through the seasons are wonderfully shot, to the point of being a fluff piece. If you’re a dog lover, the pack of dogs are beautiful creatures to watch on screen.

This was a heart warming, visually stunning documentary  to watch.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
