    There is a lot of material out in the cinematic universe surrounding Freaky Friday. There is the 1976 Jodie Foster film.  In 1995 Shelley Long made a tv movie.  There is the 2003 Janie Lee Curtis/Lindsay Lohan feature film.  There is even a 2018 tv musical version.  All of this dates back to a book from 1972.  Now, after twenty two years, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan return to Freakier Friday, a sequel to their 2003 hit.

   I love Jamie Lee Curtis.  Halloween (1978),  Trading Places (1983), my personal favorite of hers True Lies (1994), Freaky Friday (2003) among many others. I will admit I am not a fan of her Oscar winning film Everything, Everywhere, All At Once (2022).  I eagerly found a showtime, got my tickets, and attended the Freakier Friday screening.

   Throughout the feature I giggled, I LOLed, and enjoyed myself over the course of the 111 minute runtime.  I was expecting to be entertained, but not to the point that I actually was.

   About a week out from the showing I was going to, I thought I would revisit the 2003 Freaky Friday and pulled the dvd off the shelf.  In rewatching the film I thought there was no way a sequel could work as a film, nor be anywhere as good.  After watching Freakier Friday, i will admit it worked and surpassed my its predecessor for entertaining me.

    With that said the film does follow the text book sequel formula.  Many of the events are similar to in both features, and happen in nearly the same order.  Additionally, in the tradition of sequels, you do it bigger.  Freakier Friday did that.  If that formula works, it works.  Freakier Friday pulled it off.

    What a pleasant surprise this 2025 family comedy ended up being.
