Let’s talk about movies about family. Wow, what a wide net that casts. There is, yes pun intended, family friendly films, such as Disney Pixar’s Coco ( 2017). Of course the drama and comedy genres are littered with them with releases like My Girl and Father of the Bride, both from 1991. There have even been horror films about family, such as The Amityville Horror (1979). A Little Prayer is an independent film about family set in rural North Carolina.
The trailer looked sweet. The film ended up having many sweet moments. The trailer had the impression the film was going to be a comedy. There were moments of comedy in the film, however, the film ended up being more dramatic than comedic. That’s OK though. The comedic moments broke up the seriousness, and added a touch of tenderness through the story.
The cast is anchored by David Stratham, of Good Night and Good Luck. Here is plays that conflicted southern father. This is a role in which the actor does well.
The film is set in North Carolina. I am in fact from North Carolina. So, I like seeing my home state represented on the big screen.
Independent films are always a nice break from the mainstream blockbusters. They are a nice spice to cinema.
Until next time, I will see you at the movies!
