    Throughout the history of film there have been films released about things that go bump in the night.  Of course, there are the the classic monster movies of yesteryear (The Bride of Frankenstein 1935) and creature features from the atomic age (Them! 1965).   Slasher films (Halloween 1978) with their boogeyman hace made viewers question what is around the corner?  With science fiction horror films, such as 1979’s Alien, we wonder what terror comes from the stars.  There are paranormal films that explore what haunts us.  The Conjuring films and their spin-offs now see the latest release in the paranormal franchise – The Conjuring: Last Rites.

    The film follows the mold that the 2013 film that started the franchise set.  It’s a sequel, that is to be expected. Where this franchise entry distinguishes itself is as finale to the series.  The film spends a lot of time summing up the events of the previous three films as well as paying homage to the events of the spinoffs.  Time will tell if this is the grand finale of the flagship franchise or not.

    With a run tine that is two and a quarter hours the film needed to its point sooner.  It seemed liked the runtime was thirty minutes to long.

   In favor of The Conjuring: Last Rites there were decent scares in the film.  They were not as fast and furious as they were in the first two films or in the Annabelle: Creation spinoff.  They were still in the film.

    This was a fitting end to a franchise that has been reliably, entertaining, throughout the years.
