STORYLINE: From Stephen Kings official site: In the near future, where America has become a police state, one hundred boys are selected to enter an annual contest where the winner will be awarded whatever he wants for the rest of his life. The game is simple – maintain a steady walking pace of four miles per hour without stopping. Three warnings, and you’re out – permanently. (IMDb)
There have been no less then three films released in 2025 based on the work of Stephen King. First was the horror film The Monkey. Then came The Life of Chuck, which is more dramatic then scary. Now The Long Walk, the third adaptation from Stephen King’s work, has walked its way on to the silver screen.
The Long Walk is similar in story to The Hunger Games. Both stories the government is a police state and youth are rounded up for a completion, where they compete until there is a lone survivor. With The Long Walk, the film goes more for suspense, considering the source material that is a natural course.
The Long Walk, with its visual style, takes the viewer right into the middle of the action. You are there as the each step is taken. Each step adds in a to the overall sense of suspense.
This ended up being more of a suspense film then a horror flick. That was a bit of a let down, considering I was expecting a horror film from a Stephen King adaptation. I still enjoyed myself as the film played, I just wanted something with a few more scares.
In a year that has seen the release of the horror films 28 Years Later, Sinners, and Weapons this one will not stand out, despite being entertaining.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
