TOY STORY (1995, 30th Anniversary Rerelease)

STORYLINE: A little boy named Andy loves to be in his room, playing with his toys, especially his doll named “Woody”. But, what do the toys do when Andy is not with them, they come to life. Woody believes that his life (as a toy) is good. However, he must worry about Andy’s family moving, and what Woody does not know is about Andy’s birthday party. Woody does not realize that Andy’s mother gave him an action figure known as Buzz Lightyear, who does not believe that he is a toy, and quickly becomes Andy’s new favorite toy. Woody, who is now consumed with jealousy, tries to get rid of Buzz. Then, both Woody and Buzz are now lost. They must find a way to get back to Andy before he moves without them, but they will have to pass through a ruthless toy killer, Sid Phillips.  (IMDb)

1995, Braveheart would win the Academy Award for best picture and Tom Hanks declared, from Apollo 13, that there was a problem.  Robert Deniro, would turn up the heat, in well Heat, and Morgan Freeman & Brad Pitt were on the trail of a serial killer in Seven.  Disney and Pixar would revolutionize the world of animation with the release of Toy Story, the first animated film to be completely CGI.

2025, so far Michael B Jordan has lit up the screen in the vampire film Sinners, Brad Pitt has raced across the silver screen in F1 – The Movie, and Superman once again flew on the screen.  Toy Story celebrated thirty years with an anniversary rerelease.  Of course, with popcorn and a soft drink in hand I went to a showing.

Thirty years ago, the movie about the adventures of talking toys was it was pure fun and magical.  I loved being transported to infinity and beyond.  After thirty years, three more Toy Story films, a Buzz Lighryeat spinoff, many Pixar releases, and a continuing change in taste in film a one thing has held true for me the film is still fun to watch.

While the fun was still there, the magic of seeing the film from thirty years ago was gone.  What happened?  Thirty years happened.  Like I previously mentioned tastes change over the years.  Sticking with the Toy Story franchise, as I grew up the Andy, ego owned the toys as well grew up.  Even he wanted something different as do I.  That’s what makes the series great.

It was fun to rewatch the film that started it all in theaters again and get to experience that fun all over again.  The nostalgia of it was a pleasure.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
