A BIG, BOLD, BEAUTIFUL JOURNEY (2025)

STORYLINE: In this tale, David heads to a wedding in his old car with a unique GPS. He meets Sarah, and together, they embark on a journey suggested by the GPS. Along the way, they confront their pasts and explore painted landscapes, leading to a deeper  ((connection. As they contemplate their future, they face a crucial decision about their relationship.  (IMDb)

Cinematic love stories typically fit a mold.  From beginning to end those stories are straight forward and predictable. Films such as Brokeback Mountains (2005) and The Shape of Water (2017) break that mold.  Others fit that mold but tell their story in an unconventional method.  500 Days of Summer (2009) jumps to the front of that line.  Joining films such as 500 Days of Summer is the Colin Farrell and Margot Robbie film, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.

Like every other film about relationships it starts with a girl and a boy meeting one another. It seems stereotypical that they met at a wedding. From this point the film sets its concept of the two star crossed lovers getting to know each other through a journey that takes the, through their pasts.

The concept for A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is their. The film fails in its execution. There are moments that are meant to recreate first love.  They turn out to just being awkward,.  Other moments are meant to be sweet, and they end up being overly sentimental. Other moments ended up being over the top emotional.  These are the kind of moments I despise, because they insult my intelligence.

In addition to Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell Kevin Kline appears in the film. I enjoy the work of Kevin Kline ever since I saw In & Out in 1997.  His role in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey was a token character, designed to give a couple a nudge towards love.  It’s a stereotypical role in this kind of film, though I enjoyed seeing him in it.

Bold & beautiful? Not so much with this feature.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
