STORYLINE: The Strangers are back – more brutal and relentless than ever. When they learn that one of their victims, Maya (Madelaine Petsch), is still alive, they return to finish what they’ve started. With nowhere to run and no one to trust, Maya must survive another horrific chapter of terror as The Strangers – driven by a senseless, unceasing purpose – pursue her, more than willing to kill anyone who stands in their way. When crafting a sequel, there are times when the film is a home run (Aliens 1986). Other times the sequel can be a strikeout (Jaws: the Revenge 1987). Often the sequel is fine enough (Friday the 13th part 2 1981). The latest entry in the horror franchise, The Strangers, has been released, The Strangers Chapter 2.
The Strangers Chapter 2 is the sequel, to the prequel of the original film. Wow, that’s a mouthful. Was the film really necessary? No. Was the entire franchise really necessary? Not really. Though the original feature in the horror series was entertaining enough.
The Strangers Chapter 2 was only ninety eight minutes, but at some point around the middle the plot needs to accelerate. You know where it’s going, it’s taking its time getting there, and it’s painful to watch. This reminds me of the Hostel franchise.
This film is tricky puzzle piece. It fits as part of a prequel series. It clearly has an end game but has to keep part of a franchisee going. From that point of view it works.
I’m not a stranger to films I haven’t enjoyed, I just prefer to enjoy what I see more then what I don’t see. Can’t say I enjoyed The Strangers Chapter 2.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
