    Let’s talk cult classics and the Hollywood sequel machine.  Some of the greatest cult films have ended their run at just one feature film, A Clockwork Orange (1971) first instance.  Sone of the other greatest cult classics, like The Evil Dead (1981), became a trilogy of great cult films (Evil Dead II – 1987, Arny of Darkness – 1992).  Other cult films films suffered a far worse fate.  The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) had a follow up in 1981 titled Shock Treatment.  Yes, you read that correctly.  You’re welcome for that bit of cinematic knowledge, if you were unaware if it.  Now then, 2025 the Tron verse becomes a cinematic trilogy with Tron Ares.

    The question at hand is were Tron Ares and the 2010 sophomore effort Tron Legacy really necessary to make?  My answer is two fold:  Story wise absolutely not.  Both stories are subpar, while Tron Ares does takes the high ground with a slightly better story.  However both filns take advantage of the visual effects of their respective tines, to the best of their abilities.

   It is in the visual department is where Tron Ares shines.  The fast moving chases, the modern day over the top CGI, the sound effects all melding together create an exciting experience to witness.

    However, the story, is a shie string one at best.  It works, but it barely works.

   Of course Tron Ares has a few obligatory moments, from previous films, mixed in to its storyline. These are moments of nostalgia.  I will admit, in franchise I am more keen on, I am a sucker for these moments.  That’s my personal bias coming through though,  

   Tron Ares is high on visuals, low on story.
