STORYLINE: In Northern England, a man heads out on a journey into the woods to reconnect with the estranged hermit brother with whom he shared a complicated past that was altered by life-changing events decades ago. (IMDb)
Throughout film and across genres, sibling dynamics are often on display. Family features (The Parent Trap, 1961 & 1998), westerns (The Sisters Brothers, 2018), drama (The Savages, 2007), and documentaries (The Wolfpack, 2015) there are a variety of of filns to pick from that cover the topic. Anemone, starring Daniel Day Lewis and Sean Bean, about estranged brothers, has been released in theaters.
Anemone tells two stories. In addition to the story of two brothers trying to reconnect, the audience becomes aware of the relationship between a father and his.
A lot of the film takes the talking heads approach to tell its story, much like Before Sunrise (1995) and its subsequent sequels. This is when the audience is watching the central characters just talk. There are very few moments of avtion outside of this.
While the story of Anemone was interesting for this technique of filmmaking, the problem is with the accents of the actors. They were so thick that more times then I want to admit I was catching myself wondering what was just said.
In the end, the film tells a meaningful story, despite being a bit difficult to understand.
Until next time o will see you at the movies!
