I have a love/hate relationship with Angel
Studios. Ever since I saw Sound of Freedom in 2023, I have been annoyed with the studio begging for money during the end credits. Cabrini (2024), Sight (2024), and every other release I have seen from the studio continues to over preach its message of faith at me. I can not stand this. I know going into each film that this will be the case. I still go watch these films because Angel Studios routinely put their films in theaters, and supporting the moviegoing experience means something to me. This is what I love about the studio. That’s why I went to see their latest release Truth & Treason.
The film featured the usual annoyances for me, an abundance of religious themes that are front and center, as well as the begging for money during the end credits. The claim is to pay for a ticket for another to see the film. However, there is no information on how that ticket can be redeemed. At the risk of repeating myself, because I am, this annoys me.
Truth & Treason has an interesting set up, with its plot. The film falls short of hitting its dramatic marks. There was no reason for me to care for the characters, as they went through the events of the film. I admit, my bias very well could of played a factor into this.
What discouraged the dramatics, was the score. It overwhelmed the movie. There music was telling me what emotion ti geek in a given moment, instead of letting the story unfold naturally. Also let the talented
actors do their job, and act lit the story. The score should support the dramatics not become the dramatics.
In the end it was an interesting story told in the film. The film missed its mark.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
