STORYLINE:  In Good Fortune, Ansari plays a down-on-his-luck guy who is working myriad jobs. He’s called by his friend (played by Seth Rogen), who lives in the Hollywood Hills, to do various jobs for him – put in a disco floor, fix the pool heater. Keanu Reeves “valley” angel makes it so Rogen’s rich guy situation is swapped with Ansari, so the latter has the former’s life. (Indb)

    Movies can offer a unique perspective into the in sight of others. The Father (2021) follows an individual with Alzheimer’s, from his perspective.  Following him as he looses track of his memory is an incredibly unique way to view the film.  Other movies, such as It’s A Wonderful Life (1946) show the central character what the world is like with out him.  In the new Keanu Reeves comedy Good Fortune, the central character is shown how different is life could have been.  Of course, the comedy is sprinkled with life lessons.

  As I just mentioned this is a comedy.  Aziz Ansari, directs and costars along with Keanu Reeves, Koke Palmer (who is the highlight), and Seth Roger.  Throughout the film my inner teenager enjoyed the jokes, which are aimed for that demographic.  

   The grown up, that I currently I am, appreciatedthe secondary story about standing up for your cause, more then the main story being told.  The cause in Good Fortune was workers rights. The main stories of appreciating who you are, and discovering yourself I have seen before, and seen better, in other films.  The same can be said for the love story.  

   Good Fortune seems reminiscent of Warren Beatty’s Heaven Can Wait (1978) and the 2001 remake, Down to Earth, that Chris Rock created. While Good Fortune was entertaining, it dies not compare to the Warren Beatty classic.

    This 2025 classic had its laughs, as well as points.  As I glad I saw it? Yes. Will I see it again? Doubtful.
