FRANKENSTEIN (2025)

STORYLINE: Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro adapts Mary Shelley’s classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation. (IMDb)

It is a tale, almost, as old as time. I’m referencing Frankenstein of course.  James Whale directed the classic Universal Monster adaptation, in 1931.  In 1994, Kenneth Branagh released his adaptation.  In the history of Frankenstein releases there is the comedic Mel Brooks Young Frankenstein (1974).  I could go on, but I want to turn my attention to the latest adaptation, Guillermo del Toro‘s 2025 release of Frankenstein.

For those who have read the Mary Shelley novel, will be familiar with the events of the current film.  If you haven’t read the book but have seen the adaptations previously listed you’ll still be familiar with the precise of the new film.  See Victor Frankenstein (2015) as an example of the material that takes liberties with the classic monster story.

Where the 2025, shines is In the visual design of the film.  Director Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water – 2017, Pan’s Labyrinth – 2006) puts his unique visual stamp on the Frankenstein tale.  The set pieces and the costumes are the lavish pieces from a Guillermo del Toro film.

Further more the Frankenstein monster is a unique take on the Frankenstein creation. It shows the creature stitched togetherm with a unique visual color scheme.

The 2025 Frankenstein is the classic monster tale, with a unique visual style.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
