STORYLINE: A diamond heist reunites retired Horsemen illusionists with new performers Greenblatt, Smith and Sessa as they target dangerous criminals. (IMDb)
There are films to watch about magic. Labyrinth (1986), Matilda (1996), and The Prestige (2006) are all worth seeing, if you haven’t already. There are films about heists to watch, as well. Some great features include The Sting (1973), Heat (1995), and The Usual Suspects (1995) are staples of the genre. The threequel to Now you See, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, combine the two styles of filmmaking.
I really enjoy heist films. The idea of infusing magic into it was intriguing. Putting it into context of the Now You See Me franchise was questionable. I enjoyed the first film, and remember absolutely nothing about the second. So after almost ten years, why not make an original film within those parameters, instead of a third feature? Why not let the franchise stay dormant, especially how non memorable the second film ended up being?
Now You See Me: Now You Don’t featured the all the normal aspects one would find in an action heist film. Something to steal, an evil villain, and the expected twists and turns. The film ends up falling short, and being a Mission Impossible knock off.
The heist itself was unexciting, and it seemed like the film over explained how it was pulled off. The same can be said for the predictable twist at the end.
There were moments of genuine excitement in the middle of the film. In the end they seemed to be replicating incredible moments from Inception (2010).
Now You See Me: Now You Don’twas a movie where the magic was stolen.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
