KEEPER (2025)

STORYLINE: A romantic anniversary trip to a secluded cabin turns sinister when a dark presence reveals itself, forcing a couple to confront the property’s haunting past.  (IMDb)

Strange and unusual. Two words that can describe a variety of films.  Donnie Darko (2001) is definitely strange and unusual. 2002’s Bubba Hotep is strange, unusual, and so much fun to watch!  I still don’t get what Mulholland Dr (2003) is about but love Poor Things (2023).  The new horror feature , Keeper, is strange and unusual.

The film has a simple enough set up, a romantic get away to remote location, and then scary things happen. That’s pretty much the set up for The Strangers (2008).  Keepers mixes in The Cabin in the Woods (2011), which was a fun movie, but that’s for another time.

Keeper takes a simple premise, and over complicates it.  Towards the climax of the film it pauses the story to over explain what is happening, and why it is happening.  This took me out of the film, and by the time I was back into the story, credits were about to roll. The but climax of the film looked to be exciting, but I was disengaged from the film.

The horror film did go for jump scares, which I prefer.  However, they fell flat.

Despite this one being the kind of horror film I prefer, it was one I did not prefer watching.

Until nect time I will see you at the movies!
