FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S 2 (2025)

STORYLINE: One year has passed since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The stories about what transpired there have been twisted into a campy local legend, inspiring the town’s first ever Fazfest. Former security guard Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) have kept the truth from Mike’s 11-year-old sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), concerning the fate of her animatronic friends. But when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades.     Horror sequels follow many paths.  There are those that pick up immediately where its processor left off, and continues the story arc (Halloween II, 1981).  Others go a completely different route, to find their own voice (Halloween III – Season of the Witch, 1982).  A popular trebd is to be a carbon copy of the original feature film (The Conjuring 2, 2016, the countless Saw sequels).  Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, is a horror sequel, currently enjoying its theatrical release.

The story, for this PG-13 horror film, picks up a year after the original Five Nights at Freddy’s film. After the slight tine jump, we are back into the mayhem that was entertaining, in the first feature. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2ebds up being a carbon copy of its predessor.  While still an entertaining film, it doesn’t quite have the same punch that the previous film had.  The set up for the scares are there, the follow through is not.

The genius of this film is in the PG-13 rating. The teenage horror film fans can attend showings, free of adult supervision.  The film is designed for that age demographic.  I will admit my tastes, on horror films, are geared more towards classic staples such as The Exorcist (1973), Psycho (1960), and The Haunting (1963).  I also like the off the beaten path films, that include such genes as The Will & Testament of Rosalind Leigh (2012) and Rubber (2010).  So, it seems natural that something like Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 would be a less appealing horror film.

In the end this was a mediocre film to watch for me.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
