Retro Rewind ~ HOME ALONE (1990)

🏠 STORYLINE: It is Christmas time and the McCallister family is preparing for a vacation in Paris, France. But the youngest in the family, Kevin (Macaulay Culkin), got into a scuffle with his older brother Buzz (Devin Ratray) and was sent to his room, which is on the third floor of his house. Then, the next morning, while the rest of the family was in a rush to make it to the airport on time, they completely forgot about Kevin, who now has the house all to himself. Being home alone was fun for Kevin, having a pizza all to himself, jumping on his parents’ bed, and making a mess. Then, Kevin discovers about two burglars, Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), about to rob his house on Christmas Eve. Kevin acts quickly by wiring his own house with makeshift booby traps to stop the burglars and to bring them to justice. (IMDb)

In a the before streaming, in the the VHS era, you will find features that are the staples of my childhood.  The dunosaur adventure, The Land Before Time (1988), the original Star Wars trilogy (1977/1980/1983), and Airplane! (1980) all made the rotation regularly. I a, sure I wore those videotapes out.  As I did the holiday classic Home Alone, from 1990.

As I rewatched this film, with a sold out audience, how much fun it would have been to set those traps, for the bad guys.  I remembered how how fun it would have been to fight off a pair of goofball intruders. Now, years later, reflecting on those nostalgic moments I miss the young, nieve moments of childhood.  I don’t miss the teenage years that followed, in which were the most painfully ackward of my life.  Ask those around me, I  will give odds they may say the same.

Within that sold out audience were a wide range of audience members, of all ages.  Everyone, in attendance, including the author of the blog, was fully engulfed in the film.  The jokes were being enjoyed, moments of anxiety being reacted to, and the moments of triumph were cheered!

It has been thirty five years since Home Alone first saw its way into theaters. It is still as much fun for me now, as oy was then!

Until next time I will see you at the movies!

Home Alone (1990) joins The Polar Express (2004), The Addams Family Values (1993), The Holiday (2006), & Christmas in Connecticut (1945) as part of my holiday retro rewind series!
