STORYLINE: Buddy was a baby in an orphanage who stowed away in Santa’s sack and ended up at the North Pole. Later, as an adult who happened to be raised by elves, Santa allows him to go to New York City to find his birth father, Walter Hobbs. He, who is on Santa’s naughty list for being a heartless jerk, had no idea that Buddy was even born. Buddy, meanwhile, experiences the delights of New York City (and human culture) as only an elf can. When Walter’s relationship with him interferes with his job, he is forced to reevaluate his priorities. (IMDb)
There are holiday films for the whole family. How much fun is The Muppets Christmas Carol (1992)? Tons, tons to be precise! I am sure the 1966 television special How the Grinch Stole Christmas is an annual tradition for many families. Jingle All the Way (1996) is a guilty pleasure of mine. It was growing up for me, it is as a grown up me as well. Elf (2003) is a holiday feature, that is fun for all generations.
I first saw this one during its initial release in 2003, at a movie theater years later I would become a manager. I don’t really recall much of the specifics of the screening. However Elf is a holiday feature that I enjoy watching more years, then I don’t. It plays with pretty regularly each year, at my regular multiplex, and I attend the screening, each year.
This year, like year past, I sat back at the very early afternoon showing, this year flying solo, and had my normal blast of a time watching the film! I laughed at the usual jokes, enjoyed my normal snacks, and overall enjoyed myself!
In years past I have had different friends shuffle in and out of the various screenings, with me. I always enjoy the camaraderie when I attend the showings, but I still enjoy myself when I when I go solo. As always, that was the case for the 2025 screening of this reliably, entertaining holiday classic!
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
Elf joins The Polar Express (2004), The Addams Family Values (1993), The Holiday (2006), Christmas in Connecticut (1945) & Home Alone (1990) as part of my Retro Rewind holiday series.
