STORYLINE: An idealistic young woman juggles her family and work life in a comedy about the people you love and how to survive them. (IMDb)
Jamie Lee Curtis. Her name brings to my mind many excellent films, starting with her debut motion picture Halloween, from 1978. Throughout the years she has appeared in such fine films as Trading Places (1983), 1994’s True Lies (my personal favorite of hers), Freaky Friday (2003), and its sequel Freakier Friday from earlier this year. Noth films are so much fun! Her new film, Ella McCay, costarring Emma Mackey and Woody Harrelson, has arrived just at the end of this. 2025, calendar year.
Ella McCay is the latest film that shows the struggles of balancing one’s professional and personal lives. It is a far cry from the best. Fine features such as Up in the Air (2009) and Moneyball (2011, which is a film I love very much) do this better. Ella McCay falls into the mediocre film territory.
Often, I have stated the movies have missed their mark for being over ambitious. This one has the opposite problem, it is not ambitious enough. All the elements are there, they just weren’t utilized to their full potential.
Jamie Lee Curtis and Albert Brooks were used well. Woody Harrelson was under used, and it felt like his storyline went unresolved.
In the end Ella McCay felt like it was a film that did not love up to its full potentially
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
