Remakes are a popular trend in cinena. No genre is excused from this trend. Horror films have a vast history of being remade, and as 2025 fades, the holiday slasher film from 1984, Silent Night Deadly Night has its remake.
The trick with a remake is to simultaneously craft a unique film, and honor the original motion picture. John Carpenter did this best with his rename of The Thing (1982). Psycho (1998) failed miserably at this task.
The new Silent Night Deadly Night takes the same story, and puts its unique take on it. The 2025 feature is less of a slasher film, then it’s 1984 predessor, and is a psychological horror film.
Kudos to the movie for not being as a brutal movie as it could have been. With that note, much like the original Silent Night Deadly Night, the 2025 film is blood filled. Fans of the original, and its 1987 sequel will pick up on a few of the famous homages.
In the end Silent Night Deadly tales a different take from the 1984 original, with some loving nods to said original. It works.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
