DAVID (2025)

STORYLINE: From the songs of his mother’s heart to the whispers of a faithful God, David’s story begins in quiet devotion. When the giant Goliath rises to terrorize a nation, a young shepherd armed with only a sling, a few stones, and unshakable faith steps forward. Pursued by power and driven by purpose, his journey tests the limits of loyalty, love, and courage-culminating in a battle not just for a crown, but for the soul of a kingdom. (IMDb)

I am not a fan of the films Angel Studios release.  Films such as Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot (2024), and The Forge (2024) were not my kind of features.  Credit were credit is due I enjoyed Cabrini (2024), with its women empowerment themes.  The religious themes throughout the films I find condescending.  Still I went to see their latest release David, an animated, very child friendly telling of the David and Goliath story.

So why go see films from Angel Studios, if I am routinely annoyed by the content of their features, and often dislike the movies?  They often put their movies in theaters, and the movie going experience is important to me.

David particularly got under my skin. In addition to being a typical condescending feature from Angel Studios, it was the kind of children’s film I despise. This film treats children like they won’t be able to understand the material, so it is broken down to its most basic.  Yes, I understand making it age appropriate, but there is a difference between treating your audience like human beings.  How are developing minds to grow if they are not challenged?

I have no objection to faith based films.  In fact there are some I really enjoy. Charlotte Heston in 1958’s The Ten Commandments and Doubt (2008) are both fantastic films.  Sp are the three Narnia adaptations that have been made.

It’s safe to say that David did not break the streak of films I disliked from Angel Studios.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
