ANACONDA (2025)

STORYLINE: Four childhood friends are going through a midlife crisis so they decide to remake their favorite horror movie from the 1990s in the Amazon Forest When a real giant anaconda shows up, they get more than what they bargain for and their comically chaotic movie making turns into a life-or-death situation. The movie that they’re dying to remake? It might just kill them, literally. (IMDb)

Creature features are a great source of fun entertainment. There’s Godzilla Vs King Kong (1962), and many battle royale Godzilla movies. Giant bug features such as Them (1954) and Tarantula (1955) are a blast. I can not forget about 1986’s musical Little Shop of Horrors, or when dinosaurs were brought back to life in the 1993 blockbuster Jurassic Park.  Anaconda has been remade for 2025 audiences, and has now slithered its way into cinemas.

The 1997 original, is a nineties cheese fest, that is fun to watch.  The 2025 feature follows the same trajectory.  The movie doesn’t pretend to be anything more then a cheesy monster movie. The plot leans into it, and creates a thrill ride, for those into horror films with a semi dark sense of humor. Casting Jack Black and Paul Rudd only furthers this.

The story of Anaconda is a movie about the making of a movie.  This is a plot point I routinely enjoy. Martin Scorsese’s Hugo (2011) was one of the greatest films to use this story. Anaconda is more inline with Super 8 (2011), which is another fun creature feature. Super 8 is a science fiction film, instead of horror.

I sat back, enjoyed my popcorn, and had fun watching 2025’s Anaconda.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!!
