WE BURY THE DEAD

STORYLINE: After a catastrophic military disaster, the dead don’t just rise – they hunt. The military insists they are harmless and slow-moving, offering hope to grieving families. But when Ava enters a quarantine zone searching for her missing husband, she uncovers the horrifying truth: the undead are growing more violent, more relentless, and more dangerous with every passing hour.    George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead (1978) maybe the greatest zombie feature ever made.  Danny Boyce’s 28 Days Later (2002) is arguably the greatest zombie film of the new millennium.  Re-Animator (1985) is nothing short of a blast to watch. For those into the horror comedy scene, 2004’s Shaun of the Dead is a must watch. Recently I sat in my normal seat, at the movie theater, to watch the new zombie movie, We Bury the Dead, starring Daisy Ridley.

When dome right a zombie film, ends up being one of two kinds of movies.   The first is a gritty horror feature, much like Night of the Living Dead (1968).  The second is a fun, campy feature. The Return of the Living Dead (1985) is a fun and campy zombie movie.  We Bury the Dead is a gritty horror film.

The film features all the normal tropes, that make up a zombie movie.   In We Bury the Dead, it all bleeds together nicely.  The film has its creepy moments, its jump scares, and its zombie gore, which is not over done.  All this I enjoy, not only in a zombie film but in a hirror feature in general.

We Bury the Dead had a lot in common with both 28 Days Later and its first sequel 28 Weeks Later (2997).  All three  movies have a similar structure, and share some plot points. That’s ok to me, because I enjoy the films.

We Bury the Dead is a zombie film I enjoyed watching, and it’s one I wanted to enjoy watching.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
