28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE (2026)

SYNSOPSIS: As Spike is inducted into Jimmy Crystal’s gang on the mainland, Dr. Kelson makes a discovery that could alter the world. (IMDb)

At the core of humanity is the survival instinct. This instinct has been adapted into films that have crossed multiple genres.  In 2013 the end of the world comedy This is the End jokingly harnessed this instinct.  Matt Damon survived on the red planet in the sci-fi feature The Martian (2015).  Typically one would find films about survival in the drama genre, with releases such as Castaway (2000) and Deepwater Horizon (2016).  28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, the latest sequel to 28 Days

Later (2003),  is a new horror film focusing on survival in the post apocalypse.

With zombie features, there tends to be an over abundance of the undead for humanity to run from.  28 Years Later: The Bone Temple reduces the zombie count, focusing more on the human experience.  The horror movie primarily follows a small band of survivors, who hav banded together to form their own cult.  It’s an interacting perspective on the necessities of survival, in extreme circumstances.  Tgis opens up the feature for some scares not normally found in a zombie flick.

Now this is still a zombie feature.  The more interesting subplot focuses on Ralph Fiennes attempting to teach a zombie to adapt to its new surroundings. The down side is this subplot slows down the movie, and tapes down the scares.

George Romero featured a similar storyline in his 2005 feature Land of the Dead.  What made this film interesting was the perspective.  Land of the Dead did or from the point of view of the zombie.

I found my self enjoying 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. 28 Days Later and last years 28 Years Later were stronger features.  Truth be told I don’t remember much about 28 Weeks Later (2007).  I don’t really want to make a comparison.

In the end I likes the zombie sequel.  It had some interesting plots and subplots to it.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
