STORYLINE: In the near future, a detective stands on trial accused of murdering his wife. He has 90 minutes to prove his innocence to the advanced A.I. Judge he once championed, before it determines his fate. (IMDb)
Judges, juries, and a crime make up a trail. This formula is what makes up trail features, as well. Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei had audiences laughing in My Cousin Vinny (1992). Henry Fonda stars in the 1957 classic 12 Angry Men. John Cusak, headlines the ensemble, in the adaptation of John Grisham’s Runaway Jury (2003). Chris Pratt is now on trail in the sci-fi thriller Mercy.
Much like Minority Report (2002), Mercy finds its protagonist going up against a crime prevention system he helped to establish. Mercy fills its story with the standard, predictable, twists and turns. These twits and turns are supplemented with the usual cheap thrills. This kept me entertained in the mediocrity that was Mercy.
The feature was also filled with all the normal explosions, and visual effects associated with this kind of spectacle. Much like the story, and the twists and turns the effects were pretty cookie cutter. They were, at times, a but over the top, occidentally even hokey.
Mercy was a rub if the mill science fiction thriller. They have their place ib entertainment for me.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
