STORYLINE: A wedding disaster leaves the groom stranded in Rome, heartbroken in the world’s happiest city. But with one determined local-and a few meddling vacation couples-in his corner, his ruined honeymoon becomes an adventure he never expected. Because sometimes heartbreak is just the first chapter of a better story. (IMDb)
Do you remember the first tine When Harry Met Sally? How about when Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks where Sleepless in Seattle? Or how about when Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney said there was Anyone but You? Now Kevin James has his turn to find romance in the romantic comedy Solo Mio.
Solo Mio starts with heartbreak, but along the way it finds all the classic tropes that make up a rom com. Boy and gitl find each other, fall for each other, and have a predictable will they or won’t they romance. Ex romances come in to play along the journey, and the film is filled with fun side characters, who are rooting for them. The movie follows the formula set forth by the genre. There is not a lot to Solo Mio, except to sit back and enjoy yourself.
Where the feature falls into mediocrity, for me, is with the central character, betrayed by Kevin James. It is understandable that there is sadness I the character, based upon the opening of the film. As the movie progresses there is little character development, and the ending falls flat.
There are a few moments of awkward humor, that spice up the film. This breaks the predictability, for a brief moment here and there.
In the end Solo Mio is still a predictable rom com, despite having a few moments that break up that predictability.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
