Experiences, both as an individual and as a culture, make us who are. The immigrant experience has been a well covered topic in movies. Gangs of New York (2002), The Visitor (2007), and 2004’s The Terminal are all about the immigrant experience. The recent release, Buffalo Kids, covers the same topic in a family friendly fashion.
Buffalo Kids is truly a film of the world. It is about Irish immigrants, and set in the American west. The movie itself was made in Spain. That is a true representation of thr global message of cinema.
The film is targeted for a younger demographic to enjoy. The entertainment is stacked for that audience, for which I aged out many years ago. That’s ok though. Buffalo Kids tells an important story for an audience that doesn’t have stories like this in their films.
However, the animation style left a lot to be desired, for me. For me, I prefer the anime style in such films as The Wind Rises, or the detail Pixar puts into its films with its CGI. I have enjoyed films in this animation style, like The Boxcar Children (2014), just not the style.
In the end, Buffalo Kids is a immigrant story targeted for a younger age bracket, despite me not enjoying the animation technique.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
