WUTHERING HEIGHTS (2026)

STORYLINE: A passionate and tumultuous love story set against the backdrop of the Yorkshire moors, exploring the intense and destructive relationship between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw.  (IMDb)

There is much classic literature to read, or you could watch the movie adaptation. The Great Gatsby has been adapted into a film in 1974, starring Robert Redford, and again in 2013 starring Leonardo DiCaprio.  Romeo and Juliet has had two famous adaptations, one in 1968, the other in 1996.  Margot Robbie and Jacob Ekordi co-star in the latest adaptation of a classic novel, Wuthering Heights.

This 2026 adaptation of Wuthering Heights is a classic costume drama.  There are lavish costumes, the big set pieces, and epic shots of landscapes. It is a period piece as well, completing the costume drama stereotypes. All these aspects of the feature look pretty, and play well in the movie theater.  Of course, this pleases me.

Full confession, I have never read the book.  I do not have a baseline with how loyal of an adaptation this film ends up being.  However, I have seen previous adaptations.    This 2026 adaptation is not as dark as previous adaptations o have seen.  Nor was it as an over romanced take on the story I have seen. It fell nicely in between for me.  Yes that is a goldilocks and the three Bears way to look at.

To be completely honest I was not have high expectations got Wuthering Heights, as I assumed my seat in the theater. This is not my normal fair.  While not the greatest folk I have seen I was pleasantly surprised how engaged I was with the story, this time around. It was nice to have that surprise.

2026’s Wuthering Heights is a typical costume drama, that I pleasantly enjoyed.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
