MIMICS (2026)

STORYLINE: Down-on-his-luck impressionist Sam Reinhold makes a pact with Fergus-a wicked, strings-attached puppet-that holds the promise to propel Sam to stardom, unleashing a nightmare that threatens the safety of those he holds dear. (IMDb)

Fame, fortune, and the quest for it is an obsession that has come to be the center of many horror and suspense features.  The Substance (2024) had this obsession at the heart of its story.  2025’s paranormal feature Shelby Oaks went down this rabbit hole as well.  The horror, dark comedy Mimics takes its turn, in the spotlight, as the latest movie to tackle these issues.

In this dark horror, comedy an odd sense of humor is blended with a barrage of fun, yet predictable scares.  This combination does not create the greatest of movies, but an enjoyable one none the less.  This film is a Goosebumps book, Night of the Living Dummy, in particular, for adults.

The story that Mimics tells is a predictable one.  If you are into horror comedies, that predictable storyline is well worth the 90 minutes.

In that odd, dark sense of humor there were awkward bits.  Also sprinkled in, were some sarcastic, one liners that I enjoyed.

Mimics is a predictable dark horror, comedy that is fun to watch, if that’s your thing.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
