REDUX REDUX (2026)

STORYLINE: Irene Kelly travels through parallel universes, repeatedly killing her daughter’s murderer. As she becomes consumed by vengeance, her humanity hangs in the balance.  (IMDb)

The concept of a multiverse in cinema is not the exclusive fair of comic book adaptations. Multiple or alternative dimensions has been the subject of such films as The Final Countdown (1980), The Mist (2007), and the 2022 Oscar winner for best picture Everything Everywhere All at Once. The recent release Redux Redux takes the multi dimension concept, and turns it into a revenge thriller.

All revenge films share a basic building block, somebody was wronged, and they want justice for that wrong doing.  Redux Redux combines the revenge thriller flicks, with science fiction features when introducing cross dimensional travel. It’s a hokey concept, but the film goes for a serious tone. The movie succeeds in that serious tone.

Where Redux Redux falls short is on the story.  Quite often, it is pausing to explain, again what it is doing with its story. The story is a pretty self explanatory one, even with the jumps across the dimensions.  On an hour and fifty minute movie, this repetition could have been used elsewhere, to create a better since of suspense, espically at the beginning of the movie.

This was disappointing because I liked the idea of a unique revenge film. I enjoyed watching Redux Redux, just not the way I wanted to.  O wanted more thrills, and less repetition.  I enjoyed seeing the action sequences, and the overall atmosphere of the film, even when the suspense fell short.

The concept for Redux Redux was in place, even if all the pieces were not.  Those few pieces that fell into place, fell well.

Until next time I will see you at the movies.
