Mainstream horror film has many staples. So does the independent side of horror. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), Halloween (1978), & The Blair Witch Project (1999) being some of those staples. Other great Indy horror films include The Witch (2015) and The Last Will and Testment of Rosalend Leigh (2011). Theater is Dead, is a wickedly fun independent horror feature!
Theater is Dead centers around a young engineering student, who auditions for her first play, ultimately gets the role. From there things get supernatural. Injected into the motion picture is a since of humor, that sprinkle in some truly unique moments. With no spoilers, one comes towards the climax of the movie. All this adds up to a movie that is widely entertaining, and a blast to watch.
What is important about Theater is Dead is that it is centered around a strong central woman, and features strong women characters in supporting roles. They are also just great characters to watch during the course of the movie. Further more the film is directed by a woman and written by women. This combination of cinema and behind the scenes filmmaking is a one that needs to become more of a norm in today’s cinematic landscape.
Theater is Dead is a fun independent horror flick, to watch, with a great behind the scenes, combination in central character!
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
