STORYLINE: An insecure Chinese-American teenager undergoes experimental surgery to appear white, hoping to secure the prom queen title and peer acceptance. (IMDb)
Growing up, the struggle to be accepted can be tough. This rocky road has been portrayed in such films as Mean Girls (2004), The Way Way Back (2013) and Eigth Grade (2018). This concept continues to be translated to the silver screen, in 2026’s Slanted,
For some being accepted is a natural occurrence, others it’s a struggle. Slanted focuses on the struggles, of it, through the eyes of a teenage minority. She faces the challenges of discrimination and acceptance because of her race. Much like A Different Man (2024) and The Substance (2025) she goes through a psychical transformation to achieve acceptance.
Slanted is designed to be a conversation film. It discusses race, heritage, self esteem, peer pressure, and, yes, acceptance. Those acceptance talking include the concept comes in many forms. These are important discussion points.
Slanted is an interesting feature about acceptable, and the lengths one will go to to achieve that acceptance. It also features many great talking points.
Until next time, I will see you at the movies!
