Things that go bump in the night, or as it’s also known, the paranormal, take many forms on the silver screen. There’s the found footage creep fest Paranormal Activity (2009), and Bruce Willis thriller The Sixth Sense (1999). Ghostbusters has had audience is laughing since 1984. There has even been paranormal family, friendly fair with the 2012 release of Paranorman. 2026 welcomes the release of, Undertone, a new haunted house like horror flick, that dives into the paranormal.
A good horror film will not rely solely on gore and shock value to scare its audience members, much like what plagued the Saw the sequels. The kind of horror film I tend to enjoy will use multiple tactics to scare those in attendance, jump scares, psychological horror, and, yes, when appropriate the odd bit of shock value/gore sprinkled is a winning combination. Few films excel at this combination, some hace even elevated it. Undertone is the kind of horror film that takes these elements, and makes them work for it.
Undertone won’t go down as one of the greatest horror films in the history of cinema, not everything has to be the gold standard that The Exorcist (1973) ended up being. Some end up being a thrill ride to watch. Undertone falls under the second category.
Undertone is a fun, paranormal horror film with a variety of scares.
Until next time I will see you at the movies!
