THE POUT POUT FISH (2026)

STORYLINE: Living on a rundown shipwreck, Mr. Fish one day discovers a hyperactive young sea dragon Pip – who had mistaken his home for a junkyard – pilfering his belongings. The heated argument that ensues leaves both their houses in ruin. But there is hope. Embarking on a seemingly impossible quest in search of the mythical “Shimmer” to grant them a wish, there’s only one problem: someone else is on the hunt. (IMDb)

Deep under the sea is an ecosystem of cinematic delights. The Little Mermaid (1989)    and Finding Nemo (2003) swam their way from the water to screens, with the release Free Willy (1993) in between.  The Pout Pout Fish takes viewers back to the water’s depths.

The Pout Pout Fish is a basic, stereotypical,  run of the mill kids film.  The adventure features a variety of colorful characters, both visually and with personality, a predictable-family friendly story, and life lessons learned along the way.

There is nothing really challenging about The Pout Pout Fish.  It’s an entertaining feature film.  If you’re the target audience, you’re more likely to enjoy this film then I did.  This was a step up from something like The Reef (2006).  The Pout Pout Fish was just entertainment.  Films like, The Reef, tend to water down their contentment a but to much, for a younger audience.   This is a pet peeve of mine, but I’ve discussed this before.

For younger movue goers, The Pout Pout Fish is an entertaining motion picture. It was not the family fare for me, the way something like The Wild Robot (2024) or a variety of Pixar features tend to be,

Until nextI will see you at the movies!
