FORBIDDEN FRUITS (2026)

STORYLINE: In Forbidden Fruits, Free Eden employee Apple secretly runs a witchy femme cult in the basement of the mall store after hours – with fellow fruits Cherry and Fig. But when new hire Pumpkin challenges their performative sisterhood, the women are forced to face their own poisons or succumb to a bloody fate.      Witches have been casting their spelles over cinemas, and those who watch them on the big screen, for years.  Practical Magic (1996) is fun to watch, while Suspuria (1977) is a frightening feature.  1996’s The Craft is always a good time, during each viewing.  Hocus Pocus (1993) is a spellbinding tale for the whole family. Forbidden Fruits is a new movie about witches and witchcraft.

The subject matter of witchcraft has a variety of time periods for stories to be set, from classic Salem to current times.  The films also are set up to have a unique variety of characters.  Forbidden Fruits sets its tale in modern day, high end retail, with a coven of high end retail employees. The film rarely leaves the retail space, featuring scenes in back rooms, and throughout the retrial complex.

This one location type setting should have the behind the scenes team coming up with creative ways to keep this horror, comedy visually appealing.  Instead of a set design, that could have been unique, Forbidden Fruits, goes for the sex appeal with the four lead actresses. They are routinely dressed in outfits designed to show off their bodies.  Tgis objectification also seems like a way to cover up badly written characters. I will admit once upon a time I would not of paid attention to that fact.  Then again, I was a difficult and awkward 15 year-old.

I often write about sitting back, and enjoying movies where you know where the story is going.  With Forbidden Fruits, the ending could not come soon enough.  I still enjoyed myself thoigh.  I enjoyed the process of getting out, and yo to the movies. I enjoyed my customary. ‘butter’ topped popcorn, large soft drink with no ice (which I am sure those I order fromm at the snack counter,  roll their eyes now at each new sarcastic remark, I have when I ask for no ice), and all from the confort from my favorite seat in the front row.

No to Forbidden Fruits, yes to enjoying myself at the movies.

Until next time, I will see you at the movies!
