THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE (2026)

STORYLINE: Mario ventures into space, exploring cosmic worlds and tackling galactic challenges far from the familiar Mushroom Kingdom. (IMDb)

Broadway plays have been adapted into motion pictures (The King and I, 1956).  Novels have been translated to the silver screen (Casino Royale, 2006).  Films have been reborn as remakes, on movie screens (The Departed, 2006).  Even video games have danced their way through projectors, as motion pictures (Super Mario Bros. 1993).  Mario, Luigi, and the gang have once again made their way from Nintendo games to movie screens in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

We are in an era of cinematic superheroes.  The MCU dominates the box office, routinely. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is a superhero adventure, with no connection to The Avengers, that seems destined to target to separate, and unique demographics.  The first is those who grew up playing the classic Mario games, and are watching the movie for nostalgia.  The second demographic seems to be a young school age group, currently playing the Mario games, and wanting a fun filled adventure.

The space trotting adventure will check boxes for both demographics. The movie has its share of throw backs to classic Mario, and an adventure story that is entertaining for an up and coming generation of moviegoers.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is a step above its 2023 predecessor.  Iy has the benefit of not being an origin story, and jumping straight into the events of its plot.  Plus it has Yoshi, who was a favorite of mine, as I played the games growing up.

Filled with nostalgia for video game lovers, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie features an entertaining plot for a younger age demographic.

Until next time, I will see you at the movie!
