Every country around the world has its own set of politics.  These politics have put events of the world in motion, since the birth of civilization.  As a byproduct of the invention of film, both documentary and biopic, many of these events have been screened for audiences.  Films such as Judgement at Nuremberg (1961), Hotel Rwanda (2004), Munich (2005), Viceroy’s House (2017), and The Monk & the Gun (2023) have all betrayed events surrounding international affairs, in one way or another.  Palestine 36, captures a part of political world history, for modern film audiences to view.

The story of Palestine 36, is the Arab revolt against British rule.  This started in 1936 and went through 1939.  The film goes through Britain’s decision to devide Palestine into two separate states, and the repercussions of that decision.  The movie not only addresses the political and religious issues of the region and time, but the social ones as well.

In addition to being a story of culture clashes, power struggles, and social relevances, Palestine 36 has moments of striking film imagery.  It’s not the violence, featured in the movie. There are some shots that are absolutely gorgeous to view. They range from scenic desert and forest views to contrary palace scenes.

Palestine 36 is a historical epic, with a premise in political events.

Until next time, I will see you at the movies!
