EXIT 8 (2026)

STORYLINE: A man trapped in a endless sterile subway passageway sets out to find Exit 8. The rules of his quest are simple: do not overlook anything out of the ordinary. If you discover an anomaly, turn back immediately. If you don’t, carry on. Then leave from Exit 8. But even a single oversight will send him back to the beginning. Will he ever reach his goal and escape this infinite corridor?  (IMDb)

Who wants to play a game, a video game?  Films that are based off them, or course. As I child that was raised in the ninnies, I have a soft spot for Mortal Kombat (1994) and it’s 1997 sequel. The new millennium brought Doom (2005) and Hitman (2007) into theaters. Earlier this year Iron Lung came into theaters. Exit 8 now arrives in theaters.

Video game adaptations tend to come in two different forms, action/adventure features and thriller/horror movies.  Exit 8 presents itself as a horror/thriller movie. It focuses more on the mystery aspects of things then scares but has them and has plenty of thrills.

Exit 8 is a film art in one location. With the one location setting this  feature eliminates the creative need for extensive production design. Instead it can focus on story. The story is one man’s journey to unravel a mystery he has stumbled into, and solve it. On a basic level it works.

Exit 8 hits the metaphors really heavy.  There is plenty on purgatory, Heaven, hell, grief, and second chances. The metaphors overwhelm the story, instead of being  supporting to it.  This takes away from the feature film.

This is a thriller film that hits the metaphors a bit to hard.

Until next time, I will see you at the movies!
