My Thoughts om the 97th Oscar Nominees

The Oscar race has begun! The nominations are out and you are about to read my opinion. I am going to break down sone of the top categories for this entry.

Before I do there are two films that disappointed me that got nominated. The first is Anora.  I simply did not like the movie.  The se on is Emilia Pérez.  I the movie is awful and one of the most irresponsible movies ever made.  Let’s break down some of the categories.

BEST PICTURE.

Overall a so so list.  Wicked and Dune part Two checked off the blockbuster movies list.  This is obligatory.  I loved Wicked and enjoyed Dune part 2.

I would of loved to see Sing Sing get nominated especially over Emilia Perez.

LEAD ACTOR

My only complaint is Daniel Craig was snubbed for his incredible performance in Queer.  He out performed  Timothée Chalamet in A Complete Unknown.

ACTRESS

Kudos to Karla Sofía Gascón for being the first trans actress up for an Oscar for your performance in Emil’s Perez. Unfortunately you gave a bad performance in a bad performance.  While Zendaya gave a great performance in a great movie called Challengers.

DIRECTOR

I was surprised to see James Mangold make the cut for A Complete Unknown over Jon M Cho for Wicked.  Wicked was overall the more impressive film in my mind.

SUPPORTING ACTOR

Rory Culken getting nominated in A Real Pain I am two sided about. I was not a huge of the film but I thought his performance was fantastic. I do think it is the weakest of the nominees and think Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn is the strongest.

Again I a, not a fan if Anora and thought Yura Borisov was whiny through out the film. Stanley Tucci in Conclave deserved that spot instead.

SUPPORTING ACTRESS

Do I really need gp complain about Zoe Saldana being nominated for Emily Perez when I can just say how much I love that Isabella Rossellini is nominated for her incredible performance on Conclave?

Overall the Academy missed the mark this year with some highlights sprinkled.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
