MICKEY 17 (2025)

STORYLINE: Adapted from the novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, this stars Robert Pattinson as an “expendable” – a disposable crew member on a space mission, selected for dangerous tasks because he can be renewed if his body dies, with his memories largely intact. With one regeneration, though, things go very wrong. (IMDb)

Science fiction films literally transport us to other worlds.  Some times they may weave some concepts that are out of this world. With Mickey 17 the two concepts are combined, for an over the top film.

I got really eager to see Mickey 17 when I saw Bong Joon-ho was directing this one.  Parasite was an incredible film and Snowpiercer was a something I throughly enjoyed.  The ensemble for this features a cast of talent that I throughly looked forward to seeing as well. All this combined worked for me!

Within that ensemble of talent Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette were a blast to watch. They were over the top and made the film a lot of fun.

The story of Mickey 17 also entertained me highly. Where I have issue is in the set up of the film.  It did not need to take thirty plus minutes when fifteen would of done.  I was ready to get into the story.  When I did I really did.

Mickey 17 was a combination of the science fiction films Moon (2009) and Starship Troopers (1997).  Both films I loved and adding them together created a film I liked.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
