CAUGHT BY THE TIDES (2024: Chinese film)

STORYLINE: A Chinese woman lives for herself in silence, celebrating the prosperous Belle Epoque with songs and dance.  (IMDb)

In previous blogs you have read me jokingly, feed my own ego, about once and still being cute and adorable.  Let me get a little serious about myself for a minute. As the world went into hiding from the pandemic, five years ago, I gof Covid.  It damaged my vision. I know what are thinking.

Let’s get this out thete. Yes I still watch movie. Yes I have made it work for me.  After all, going to the movies is one of the top three things I enjoy doing the most in life. However foreign films are tricky. I have problems with subtitles. I have recently begun exploring with

apps to help in translating the dialogue, as it is spoken.

What works in Caight by the Tides is how unnessary the dialogue is for the story. It is very minimal. I found  the film to be very visual as it told its story abd was able to follow it, even as I understood very little of what was spoken.

There have been films that have been completely diakogus free, most recently the Oscar winning Flow, and have conveyed an intriguing story.  Caught by the Tides is thst rarity where there is dialogue but the visuals tell the story instead.

As someone who is visually impsted I enjoyed that because I enjoy films beyond what Hollywood makes, in addition to the Hollywood fair. I enjoy seeing the other cultures view the world. Art is a global language and a gateway to comfortably understanding other

 cultures,

I enjoyed seeing the Chinese culture through the kegs of Caught by the Tides.

Until next time I will see you at the movies!
