LEVITICUS (2026)

STORYLINE: Two teenage boys must escape a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most – each other. (IMDb)

In the theme song for Ghostbusters, Ray Parker, sang “I ain’t afraid of no ghost!”  There are plenty of horror films rising to the challenge to scare modern day cinema goers.  Sinister (2012) and Insidious (2010) have both frightened audiences, so much they became franchises.  Sam Raimi released the scary Drag Me to Hell in 2009.  Now, the ghostly trend continues with the new horror flick, Leviticus.

Ghosts can take many forms, beyond the normal specter in cinema. Demons and unseen entities, for example.  This gives the sub genre, of horror, a big net to cast when crafting moving pictures.  Leviticus, is a ghost story, about an unseen entity.

Sure, the story being told is a bit familiar.  In a way, it felt reminiscent of It Follows (2014).  It’s the way the story it told that made this one work.

Leviticus, took a breath, slowed down, but not to slow as to drag, and went more for psychological horror, then jump scares.  That’s not to say the movie is without them.  The jump scares are there, well placed, and spice up the movie. Hokum, the horror movie earlier this year, used the same technique.  Hokum still remains my favorite mainstream horror film of 2026.

Current horror features Obsession, which I enjoyed, and Backrooms, whivh I did not enjoy, are currently trending at the box office. I like that they are brining folks to the theaters, and a renewed eagerness to the genre.   I hope that carries forward to, the superior, Levictus.

Levictus is a well paced ghost story, with elements of a psychological horror film.  Will it make my top ten list at the end of the year? Doubtful.  Did I enjoy it, abd have fun watching it? There’s no doubt in my mind about that fact!

Until next time, I will see you at the movies!
