THE ONLY LIVING PICKPOCKET IN NEW YORK (2026)

STORYLINE: When a theft goes awry, a veteran pickpocket is sent on a mission through New York to reclaim it.  (IMDb)

There was love and heartbreak in the 2003, New York City set rom com How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.  The mob was on the streets of New York, in Goodfellas (1990).  New York was not afraid of ghosts, in Ghostbusters (1984).  New York City, is once again on the big screen, in the new motion picture The Only Living Pickpocket in Brooklyn.

There’s all kinds of crime movies available to watch.  There are films about murder, embezzlement, and bank robbery just to name a few.  The Only Living Pickpocket in Brooklyn, follows a pickpocketer for twenty hours.

The premise featured, in this film, has been done multiple times before, it seems.  There is a crime, something goes wrong somehow, and a worse criminal wants retribution.  Some sort of tension, and/or drama, usually rises out of this storyline as well.

The Only Living Pickpocket in Brooklyn fits nicely into this mold. There is no reinvention of the wheel.   That makes this a predictable film.  It is a heost movurvat its heart.

That does not mean it isn’t entertaining.  The movie has many fun moments, spread throughout. It sprinkles in some sentimental moments, as well.  These are meant to add a bit of depth to the story, but they are a bit hokey, and in context that’s ok.

The Only Living Pickpocket in Brooklyn is a smaller, independent film.  It doesn’t have the spectacle of the big heist films like Heat (1995) or The Sting (1973).  It plays to the strengths of smaller con jobs.  It works well.

The Only Living Pickpocket in Brooklyn is an entertaining, though cookie cutter, con film.

Until next time, I will see you at the movies!
