     I have never bern much of a gamer. Growing up I played some Mario games like Super Mario World. Super Snash Bros was the last game I recall really playing, and with no real enthusiasm. As a movie guy I do attend movies based on video games. Movies this year alone have included Iron Lumg and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.  Joining the ranks, of 2026 feature films based upon video games, is Mortal Kombat II.

    The destruction of earth, with a hero  stepping up to find his or her voice, is a common plot point, among the  science fiction genre. I believe this storyline has been used more then once in the MCU.  That is essentially the plot of Mortal Kombat II.

    Let’s be honest, I have a hunch the majority of those going to see this film aren’t going for plot.  They are either nostalgic fans of the video game, or fans of action pack feature films. They want awesome fight sequences, with great stunts. The movie should also throw in some witty banter, and, of course, of incredible special effects. Essentially Mortal Kombat II should be a fun, action packed, thrill ride from when the theater lights go down until the end credit role.  You know what, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that expectation.

    With that mindset this film delivers on all counts. It is a textbook summer blockbuster. It is a fun, spectacle to watch. 

    The one catch 22 is the R rating. With that R rating the film has the flexibility to be more over the top with its sequences. The downside is, the movie is limiting its audience. A target demographicof the teenage crowd will be denied admission.  Still, I am well past my teenage years, and finding a way to experience, what I am certain a teenage me, would want to see amf would of enjoyed as much if not more then the current version me, is no longer a problem. 

   Mortal Kombat II is an action impact motion picture, that won’t disappoint fans of such features!
