OBSESSION (2026)

STORYLINE:  After breaking the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price.  (IMDb)

It’s mid May 2026, and the horror genre has scared up multiple films already this year. Hokum, Psycho Killer, Scream 7, and Send Help have already scared main steam movie goers. Obsession, is the latest popcorn flick, to frighten audiences, that is playing in multiplexes.

The horror flick keeps it plot basic, a wish is made, and the love stricken central character must handle the frightening repercussions.  With a simple plot Obsession allows itself to go for scares.

How does the movie succeed, with this task?  First Obsession goes for shock value.  Kudos for the shock value not being the graphic gore fest that has previously plagued the genre.  Instead it is done through the twisted actions of the love interest, under the spell of the wish.  While the shock value was not gory, it was a bit to over the top.  I describe it as creating a screwed up atmosphere, for the movie.

Second the horror movie attempts jump scares as well.  These scares are sprinkled throughout the movie, as if they’re spices to elevate the movie.  To an extent these quick moments do, just that.  The movie could have benefitted from a few more of these, thoigh.

Obsession is entertaining enough.  Perviously released 2026 horror films, such as Hokum & Send Help set a high bar of excellence. The latest Scream sequel was b but more fun to watch. Still Obsession was enjoyable.  That previously mentioned shock value took it down a notch.

Obsession is an enjoyable horror movie featuring non gory shock value, that is a bit over the top.   It features sone Juno scares parsley sprinkled throughout the motion picture.

Until next time, I will see you at the movies!
