“Revenge is a dish best served cold” – Klingon Proverb
There are a lot of feature films available to watch that bring that quote to life. Kill Bill (Vol 1 – 2003, Vol 2 – 2004), Memento (2000), The Crow (1994), and Man on Fire (1994) are films that serve revenge, as their storyline, for audiences to enjoy. Is God Is becomes the latest motion picture to serve up this storyline.
Revenge films share a common thread of something bad happens, followed by the central character going on a mission of justice for themself. Common threads like that is why they call them genre pictures. Is God Is takes a slightly different approach, as those seeking revenge are doing it at the request of another, specifically their mother.
Otherwise, Is God Is has the stereotypical set up for revenge thriller. The movie features the violence, and tries for the thrills, and action, of revenge movies.
The thrills fall short, as they are predictable, and unexciting. The action sequences are a carbon copy of the thrills.
Is God Is ends up being a knock off of Kill Bill. If you’re going to knock off a film, knocking off Kill Bill is a good one to knock off.
In the end, Is God Is, falls short of being a thrilling, action packed revenge movie.
Until next time, I will see you at the movies!
