SCARY MOVIE (2026)

STORYLINE: Two friends find themselves caught up in mayhem involving killers, monsters and supernatural creatures once again.  (. IMDb)

Things that go bump in the night have been frightening movie goers since the dawn of celluloid.  With these fright fests, comes their counter parts, the spoofs.  In 1974 Mel Brooks lampooned Frankenstein, with one of my favorite comedies, Young Frankenstein.  The Wayans’ Brothers hilariously spoofed horror movies im Scary Movie (2000) and Scary Movie 2 (2001).  Though, almost 2 decades before, in 1981, Student Bodies spoofed horror flicks as well.  This hot, June 2026 weekend, The Wayans’ Brothers return to poke fun at films that frighten film goers in Scary Movie.

I can’t remember if I have mentioned that horror films co-share the top spot for my favorite kind o movie to watch. (They share the top spot with spy films).   Rosemary’s Baby (1968) remains my favorite fright fest!  The sarcastic side of me, loves being entertained as well.  That’s where the Scary Movie franchise belongs in the pantheon of my cinema viewing.  The first two are fantastic, I laugh at the same jokes all the time. I enjoy the third and fourth flicks, they get the job done. I don’t talk about the fifth one.

I was excited when I read that the Wayans’ were returning to the franchise, for the first since the second entry.   Scary Movie 2 is the goat of the series.   Typically I rewatch a previous entry or two in the series before going into the new one, but I didn’t want to this time.  I wanted to go as unprepared as I could.

Scary Movie follows the traditional film structure that the previous films of the franchise has set up.  The PG-13 humor of the third and fourth films is replaced with the R rated humor found in the first two motion pictures.  I a, smiling as I type that, and am sure I will do so again when I proof read!

I laughed hard over the course of an hour and a half. I enjoyed the jokes poking fun at horror films from the past few years, and current events.  I am sure I missed one or two moments in Scary Movie because I was enjoying laughing at the previous moments.

Scary Movie hilariously returns to its roots, of the first two entries of the franchise. The humor, as it pokes fun at modern day horror films and social issues, is crude and pretty much as un pc as it comes. I throughly enjoyed myself as I indulged in the entertainment that was Scary Movie!

Until next time, I will see you at the movies!
